The BEST WiFi speaker of all time | Sonos One Review

A little while ago, Sonos sent over their One Speaker for me to review. Over the course of a few weeks i have put the speaker through it’s paces to see exactly what it can do.

Big thanks to Sonos for sending this out for review!

Design and First Impression

The unit i got is fully matte white and looks superb! It has a good heft to it to add to the already premium feeling of the speaker. Included with the speaker is a power cable, Ethernet cable and some documentation. On the top of the speaker is where you will find the Play/Pause button, Volume Up/Down and the microphone button. With the Volume and Play button, swiping your finger either left or right will skip the track either forward or back. These are all capacitive buttons which is something i like to see on smart devices in 2019.

On the button, you will find 4 non-slip rubber feet as well as the recessed power jack, this helps make the speaker look more slick than the traditional power out the back.

Speaking of the back, here you will find the Ethernet jack and the sync button which is used in the setup.

Feature List

  • Two Class-D digital amplifiers perfectly tuned to match the speaker drivers and acoustic architecture
  • Far-field microphone array, used for smart voice capture and noise cancellation. Two Class-D digital amplifiers perfectly tuned to match the speaker drivers and acoustic architecture
  • One mid-woofer ensures you’ll hear the faithful playback of mid-range vocal frequencies plus deep, rich bass. Two Class-D digital amplifiers perfectly tuned to match the speaker drivers and acoustic architecture

Setup and Software

The Sonos one is super easy to setup, just download the IOS or Android app and wait for the app to find the speaker, connect it to your WiFi and you’ll me listening to your favourite music in minutes.

The Sonos app is robust and Intuitive allowing you to connect your Spotify or other music service to your Sonos account and play it directly through the Sonos app, if you pause the music or even disconnect your phone from the WiFi the One will retain the playlist or song and still be able to play it.

Another great thing about Sonos speakers is the ability to pair them together, if you have multiple Ones just go into the app and pair them for a surround sound experience.

Multi-Room listening, if you have heard of Sonos before, than there is a pretty good chance you know about multi-room listening, want to listen to something in the office but want to keep listening while you make a coffee in the kitchen? No problem, just go into the Sonos app and change the room. (Rooms are defined in setup)

Technical Specs

Audio Quality

The specs define what the speaker sounds like, but there is no way to truly convey what it actually sounds like, nevertheless. The One sounds amazing, the audio is super clear and has great bass, but not too much that your whole room will be rumbling. The One also has a really good tweeter to accurately recreate all the high frequencies without making your ears bleed.

Conclusion

I really like the Sonos one, so much that i have non-stop used it in the review period. I highly, highly, highly recommend it!

Answering questions, writing reviews and playing with tech is what i do best. Love myself some pizza and a good game to play, after i finish my work of course. My #1 skill would have to be procrastination, but once i get stuck into my work i can do it for hours. I love what i do and hope you all love reading it and interacting with me!
