The Alcatel 3T 10 is a 10” Android Tablet with an Audio Station Dock. Yeah remember audio docks? So for the last few weeks I’ve been using the 3T 10 each day to see what it can and can’t do. (I know it’s taken me awhile to get to it, I’m sorry)

Big thanks to Alcatel for sending this over for review!

What’s in the Box?

Included in the box of the Alcatel 3T 10 is the tablet itself, the Audio Station dock, a Micro USB cable, USB adapter and some documentation.

The packaging is pretty bland, it has some info and pictures on the box but nothing too special.

Design wise the Alcatel 3T 10 is a pretty standard looking 10” tablet. It has a front camera at the top of the tablet inside the jumbo bezels, the bezels on this are huge! On the side are the volume and power buttons and on the other side is where you will find the Sim Card slot and the Micro-SD card slot.

On the top is the Micro-USB charging slot and the headphone jack, yep, this has one. Mind Blowing!

On the back of the tablet is the single rear camera, the texture on the back is very gritty feeling and overall a bit of a weird texture for the rear of something like this as it isn’t very grippy.

You might be wondering by now how the tablet integrates with the dock. Well on the base of the tablet are 8 contacts that correspond to 8 pins on the dock. These pins are only for power as far as I can see as the tablet actually uses Bluetooth to play music on the Audio Station.384fc6a58e64637905901cd9328ab545 2

Audio Station

As to the design of the Audio Station, it feels pretty cheaply made and quite generic looking to be honest. The felt surrounding the speaker is not very nice in the hand and feels pretty rough. The buttons are a bit mushy, not overly bad but notably bad. Speaking of the buttons, from left to right there is the play/pause button and the seek buttons as well as a power button and a bluetooth pairing button.

Around the back of the Audio Station is a flip out arm to help stabilize the dock when the tablet is mounted so that it doesn’t topple over.

Also found around the back is another Micro-SD card slot, a Micro-USB port to charge the speaker and tablet as well as an AUX port in.

As to the speakers inside the dock, it has two stereo front firing 40mm speakers and passive bass coming from either end of the speaker.

The Screen on the Alcatel 3T 10 is nothing to run home about, it’s a 1200X800 TFT-IPS display with a 16:10 ratio and 160ppi. The display is a lot closer to 720p than it is to 1080p so you will have to stick with lower quality video content if you plan to use this to watch things like YouTube. The bezels on the 3T 10 are quite large with about a %70 screen to body ratio.

The screen is pretty unusable outside with only 275 nitts of light and no auto dimming feature. But this is not really an issue as you have to use this at basically full brightness to be able to see things clearly on the screen.

The Alcatel 3T 10 comes with only 2GB of RAM which just isn’t enough to run even Android 9.0 smoothly, this along with the slow processor that is in it gives you a pretty laggy experience with every action taking a few seconds to happen. Plus, with only 2GB of RAM you can forget about multitasking, I tried to browse the web with a few apps open in the background and the text I was typing was taking a couple of seconds to actually come on screen after I had initially typed it.

Watching things like YouTube actually works pretty well, It doesn’t look the greatest but is definitely watchable at 720p and is actually quite a smooth playing experience.

It’s the age of Social Media and everyone is using their connected devices to take selfies and record memorable moments. The camera on the Alcatel 3T 10 isn’t great, it is only 2MP at f/2.8 meaning that you have to be in a pretty well lit area to get anything usable out of this camera. Both the front and back cameras use the same sensor and are capable of taking video at 720p@30FPS.

The battery in the Alcatel 3T 10 is a 4080 mAh battery with the Audio Station adding another 2000 mAh of battery. With daily general use I was able to squeeze around 5-6 hours of battery time with up to 8 while using the Audio Station.

The speakers on the tablet itself are pretty awful and when playing at high volumes the audio starts to clip and become really harsh. When using the Audio Station the sound does get better and the speaker can actually get pretty loud for music listening and works pretty well as background music for things like chores and work.

The Alcatel 3T 10 is a decent tablet for the price, You can’t ask for much for at this price point. Yes it does have some issues but if you are only using this as a music speaker in the background or having a child use it for YouTube consumption-It’s great! Another awesome way to use this is place it in a prominent position and use it as a smart home control hub.
