CORSAIR iCUE NEXUS Review | The perfect PC Companion!

Today CORSAIR launched their iCUE NEXUS Companion Touch Screen but as the awesome folks they are. They sent me a unit a week early for me to test out and review for the launch. So in this review I’ll be going over what the NEXUS offers and how well it works.

Big thanks to CORSAIR for sending this over for review!

What’s in the Box?

The packaging for the iCUE NEXUS is a pretty standard looking CORSAIR box with a fancy front with the product images and name. And the standard yellow box design for the rest of the box. Included in the box is the NEXUS itself, a desk stand, multiple different keyboard mounts, a pry tool and some documentation.

Design and Features

The iCUE NEXUS Companion Screen is a really compact little device that can be fitted either to the top of your keyboard or into it’s standalone desk stand if you don’t have a compatible keyboard.

Keeping to the compactness, It’s really quite small coming in at only 15cm long and 1.6cm high. But really this is as big as you would want something to be that sits on the top of your keyboard.

Moving around the NEXUS, there isn’t much to say here. It’s pretty plain with a completely black plastic exterior. On the front is where the magic is, here is where you will find that 5” LCD Touch Screen. This can be completely controlled by CORSAIR’s iCUE software. More details about this further in the review.

The mounting system for the iCUE NEXUS is quite ingenious in my opinion. Once you mount the keyboard mount using the 3M tape the NEXUS just slides right on and clicks in. If you’re using the stand there is no tape you have to worry about.

But from what I can tell from the information I have, the iCUE NEXUS can only be mounted to the CORSAIR K70 MK 2.0 or the K95 RGB Platinum XT. But even if you don’t have these you can still use the Nexus with the stand.

Specs

Software

As the name suggests, the iCUE NEXUS is controlled by CORSAIR’s iCUE Software to let you customize the screens. This is where you can do things like make your custom screens with your custom images or import screens that other people have made. Adding new screens is easy just by clicking on the plus symbol. Adding buttons is also really easy just by clicking on an empty part of the screen you can add a new button to do things like adjust volume, be a macro, launch an application and more.

One thing I really like about it is the range of different icons that iCUE offers for the buttons as well as being able to do a custom background!

There is one issue I have with iCUE and that is when I lock my PC. When I come back after locking it, iCUE tends to crash or change my settings and profiles. I’m not sure why it does this but it’s a little annoying.

So how well does the iCUE NEXUS work?

So how well does the iCUE NEXUS work? Well quite well actually, it’s super easy to get started and customize it. The screen is super responsive and easy to use. The options are basically unlimited, if I had stated everything that the NEXUS could do, this review would be 100 pages long. It’s incredible how CORSAIR has managed to make such a compact yet versatile little device!

The only downfall I had was the screen itself was a little on the flimsy side and if you tapped it a little too hard it would bend and is a bit fuzzy with a low resolution of 640×48 but other than that no issues at all.

Pricing

The iCUE NEXUS comes in at $99USD or 169AUD/NZD. So it’s not everyone’s cup of tea in terms of pricing but think about all the customizability it offers!

Conclusion

To wrap it up, the iCUE NEXUS greatly exceeded what I thought it could do, when CORSAIR reached out to me and asked if I wanted to check it out I thought it was going to be some cheap screen with a couple of buttons on it. I was very wrong. There is so much that the NEXUS can do and I think there is going to be a cool community for the NEXUS sharing custom screens and ideas.
