D-Link DIR-3060 Review | Dual 5GHz Bands

In today’s review I’m taking a look at one of D-Link’s new Mesh routers, The D-Link DIR-3060.

Big thanks to D-Link ANZ for sending this out for review!

What’s in the Box?

D-Link DIR-3060 Box

The D-Link DIR-3060 come packed in a pretty standard router box with all the pretty info on the outside and just a plain old piece of cardboard holding it on the inside. Included in the box is the DIR-3060 itself, A CAT-5E ethernet cable, An AC power adapter, a quick install card and some more documentation.

Design and Features

D-Link DIR-3060 Front

The main body of the DIR-3060 is black with a grey accent running from the top to the bottom. This grey plastic also acts as some ventilation and also where you will find all the indicator lights for the router. On the top of the router is the D-Link logo, towards the bottom is the McAfee Protection logo as this router does feature McAfee’s protection software. On the very front of the DIR-3060 is also a WPS button for quick connect.

It features six thick antennas to give it it’s tri-band ability and also make it look like some kind of alien.

On the base of the DIR-3060 is even more ventilation for this monster of a router. Here is also where you’ll find all your info for the router, This is also on the quick install card.

On the back of the router is all the connectivity, which you know-allows you to connect to the interwebs.

D-Link DIR-3060 Back

From left to right is a USB 2.0 port for something like a printer, 4 Gigabit LAN ports, 1 Gigabit WAN port, 1 USB 3.0 port for something like a portable ssd to give you network storage, a reset button, DC in port and the power button.

The D-Link DIR-3060 has an 880 MHz to allow it to multitask and stream high bitrate content to multiple users.

You can link your D-Link DIR-3060 to either Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa and ask it to do a range of things to control your network like scanning for insecurities.

Auto Switching

The D-Link DIR-3060 has two channels, 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz and it will switch your WiFi device between the two depending on where exactly on the property you are and what would be stronger and more reliable. Obviously 5 GHz is faster but doesn’t offer the same range as 2.4 GHz does.

Setup

Setting up the D-Link DIR-3060 is as simple as scanning the QR code on the quick install card into the MyDlink app and following the instructions. It only takes a few minutes and really that’s all you need to do if you just want plain old internet. Setting up the McAfee is just as simple, Download the D-Link D-Fend app and link it to your MyDlink account and away you go securing your network.

‘EXO’ Smart Mesh

The D-Link DIR-3060 is one of D-Links ‘Smart Mesh’ routers which means if you add a couple of Mesh range extenders to your network you can create basically a full fledged mesh network. Do note that I haven’t actually used a mesh network so cannot confirm actual performance.

Performance

Obviously, The DIR-3060 is pretty powerful with it’s 880 MHz CPU and served multiple 4K video streams at once without any hiccups, Compared to the old D-Link DSL-3900 that we have been using, which is actually a modem, This has been a big and needed change and really does help.

Pricing

The D-Link DIR-3060 is available from D-Link’s Website for $400.

Conclusion

The D-Link DIR-3060 is quite the powerhouse, It offers fast, lag free WiFi and is packed full of features. It also looks a lot nicer than the DIR-2680 which was released earlier this year as the first router with McAfee LiveSafe.
