In today’s review, I’m taking a look at the Gigabyte RTX 2060 Super Gaming OC.

Big thanks to Gigabyte ANZ for sending this out for review.

What’s in the Box

Including in the box of your new RTX 2060 Super, Is the RTX 2060 Super itself, A Driver CD(still don’t understand why manufacturers don’t include drivers on a USB drive), You also get some documentation.

Design and Features

The Gigabyte RTX 2060 Super uses Gigabyte’s windforce style cooler which is basically the same on all Gigabyte cards apart from some slight changes for each card.

The key features of the windforce coolers are

  • WINDFORCE 3X Cooling System – alternate spinning middle fan, 3D active fans – fans remain off during idle or lower power/temperature on the graphics card
  • 4 direct touch copper heat pipes on the GPU + heatsink plate for the VRAM & MOSFET as well
  • Neutral colour design with small RGB effect on the GIGABYTE logo
  • Metal back plate for enhanced graphics card structure
  • 4 year manufacturer’s warranty

The RTX 2060 Super design is basically an exact copy of the regular RTX 2060 but with a beefier heatsink, for obvious reasons. It comes in at 280.35 x 116.45 x 40.24 millimeters (L x W x H) and has both an 8 pin and 6 pin power connector.

Surprisingly, it is only a 2 slot card instead of 2.5 like most of its sibling cards like the RTX 2070 and RTX 2080.

It has a fully black cooler shroud with grey accents here and there. The Gigabyte logo does light up and is RGB. If you are looking for a minimalistic looking card, this is about as simple and plain as GPUs come in 2019.

The cooler on the RTX 2060 super has 3 80mm fans and does sport 4 heatpipes, but they are only direct touch instead of soldered which might slightly affect cooling but not too much if any. These heat pipes go into 3 different aluminium fins stacks which gives the card adequate cooling without being too loud.

The Gigabyte RTX 2060 Super also has a decently rigid metal backplate to help support the GPU and prevent sagging. This along with reinforced PCIe slots that are on most motherboards these days, the likelihood of the card ripping out of the slot is minimal.

The card has 3 Display Port 1.4 ports, 1 HDMI 2.0b port and a USB-C port which supports Virtual Link. I really do like the fact that Gigabyte put this display option on here.

Gigabyte’s patented “Alternate Spinning” solves the issue of turbulent fans in 3 fan cards. Which is the biggest problem with the three fan cards. Since the fans rotate in the same direction, the airflow direction is opposite between the fans, which will cause turbulent airflow and reduce heat dissipation efficiency. The Gigabyte RTX 2060 Super turns the middle fan in the opposite direction, so that the airflow direction between the two fans is the same, reducing the turbulence and enhancing the airflow pressure.

The airflow is split by the triangular fan edge, and guided smoothly through the 3D stripe curve on the fan surface, effectively enhancing the airflow.

The 3D Active Fan provides semi-passive cooling, and the fans will remain off when the GPU is in a low load or low power game. It allows gamers to enjoy gameplay in complete silence when the system is running light or idle.

NVIDIA Turing Architecture

With NVIDIA Turing and the latest GeForce RTX platform combined, you can enjoy artificial intelligence, real-time ray tracing, and programmable shading altogether. It will give you brand new gaming experience

Composite Heat Pipe

The composite heat pipe integrates phase transition and thermal conductivity to efficiently control heat transfer between two interfaces and enhance cooling capacity.

The graphics card uses the 6+2 power phase design to allow the MOSFET to operate at lower temperature, and over-temperature protection design and load balancing for each MOSFET, plus the Ultra Durable certified chokes and capacitors, to provide excellent performance and longer system life. (Reference card is 5+2 power phase)

The smart power LED indicator alerts the player when any PCI-E power supply is abnormal.

The Gigabyte RTX 2060 Super Gaming OC sports some good specs as listed below.

Synthetic Benchmarks

Gaming Benchmarks

There are two software suites to use with the Gigabyte RTX 2060 Super Gaming OC, Aorus Engine and RGB Fusion.

Aorus Engine

Aorus Engine is the main utility to allow you to monitor and manage voltage, clock speeds, temperature, and fan profiles to get the best performance out of the RTX 2060 Super Gaming OC.

Clicking on Professional Mode gives you access to more advanced features for overclocking. Here, you will be able to manually increase the GPU voltages, core clock speeds. But it does not allow you to fully overclock the card due to voltage limits within the software. Aside from overclocking, you can also configure the fan curves and fan speeds.

RGB Fusion 2.0

RGB Fusion 2.0 is the second software that allows you to configure the RGB settings of the RTX 2060 Super Gaming OC and other compatible devices that you own.

It lets you choose from a variety of preconfigured effects. If you only want a single colour, Pick Static. Choose Pulse for one color that fades in and out. For flashing effects, select Flash or Double Flash. Or for all you that don’t like RGB, you can also choose to have it off.

I really enjoyed testing out the Gigabyte RTX 2060 Super Gaming OC. It’s performance is impressive and is a good price for what it offers. I would definietely recommend this over the RTX 2060 and 2070, And over most other cards available on the market!
