Hello and welcome to my first review of 2021! I’ve been on a bit of a hiatus while dealing with some things in my personal life, but I am now back into a position where I can be writing reviews again. So for the first review of 2021, I’m going to be taking a look at the Razer Blackshark V2 X. It was announced late last year, and Razer was so kind to send me out a review unit. Thanks, guys!

The Razer Blackshark V2 X is the Blackshark V2’s budget-friendly younger brother. As you’ll see further into the review, the Blackshark V2 X still offers quite a lot for the price. But no spoilers here; you’ll have to read on!

What’s in the Box?

What’s included in the box of the Blackshark V2 X? Well, you get the headset itself, a 3.5mm audio splitter in case you don’t have a combo port. You get a nice travel bag for the headset; This is great to see in a budget-friendly headset!

Design and Features

Design-wise, the Blackshark V2 X is actually really comfortable, much more than I would expect for a budget headset. Most budget headsets I see feel really plasticky and cheap, but

I was pleasantly surprised by the Blackshark V2 X. It has a soft, supporting headband as well as soft earcups. The headband provides just the right amount of pressure on your head without being too harsh, which is excellent for people like me who wear glasses every day. Plus, it doesn’t weigh down on you like some gaming headsets do. The headset does have some pretty good flexibility and can be easily adjusted on each ear, allowing it to fit basically any size or shape head.

In terms of controls, the Razer Blackshark V2 X has a volume wheel on the left ear cup and a hardware mute button. This is great to see! I hate having to have a digital mute, as it makes muting on the fly much more difficult. The cable is a lovely soft, rubber cable that is non-detachable and is 1.3m in length.

Features

Although the Razer Blackshark V2 X isn’t as feature-rich as some of Razer’s other headsets, it does have some pretty nice features to offer.

  • 7.1 Surround Soun
  • Cross-Platform compatibility
  • Lightweight Design
  • Passive Noise Cancellation
  • Razer™ TriForce 50mm Drivers

Highlights!

7.1 Surround Sound

This is basically a must-have for any gaming headset these days. The ability to be able to hear where your enemy is in real-time while gaming gives you a significant advantage over those who don’t. Plus, it’s also great if you’re watching a movie to provide you with that really immersive experience.

Cross-Platform Compatibility

This is great for those who have both PCs and Console but don’t want to fork out the extra money on headsets for both. The Razer Blackshark V2 X has a standard 3.5mm jack that works on just about anything these days.

Performance

The Razer Blackshark V2 X performs excellent for such a budget headset, the 7.1 surround sound works flawlessly, and the sound is crystal clear, even at high volumes. I noticed that the bass could sometimes become a little distorted depending on what I was listening to, but this was only when the sounds were very bass-heavy. But overall, a really good listening experience.

The microphone on the Blackshark V2 X is outstanding for a budget headset. It’s not going to win you any awards for streaming, but for gaming and discord, etc., it’s great. My teammates were always able to clearly hear what I was saying; I never even managed to clip the mic (Even when I lost).

Pricing

The Razer Blackshark V2 X can be found online for around $80 AUD, which I think is a very fair price for what you get.

Conclusion

The Razer Blackshark V2 X is an excellent budget-friendly option for those who want a good bang for the buck gaming headset; it offers excellent sound, a great microphone, and a comfortable gaming experience. I would definitely recommend it to someone looking for a gaming headset on the cheaper end!

Available at Mwave (Only $53.41AUD at time of writing)
